What is CBG?

Cannabigerol (CBG) is often called the 'mother' or 'stem cell' cannabinoid because it's the chemical precursor to THC, CBD, and CBC. In young cannabis plants, CBGa (the acidic form) is abundant, but as the plant matures, enzymes convert most of it into other cannabinoids—leaving only about 1% CBG in mature plants. This scarcity made CBG expensive and rare, but new CBG-rich cultivars are changing that. Non-psychoactive like CBD, CBG has its own unique therapeutic profile and is gaining attention for its potential in treating conditions that don't respond well to THC or CBD alone.

How It Works

CBG interacts with both CB1 and CB2 receptors but with lower affinity than THC. It may act as a partial agonist at these receptors. CBG also affects alpha-2 adrenergic receptors, 5-HT1A serotonin receptors, and blocks TRPM8 channels—explaining its diverse effects.
